About Cyprus

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Entering Cyprus

Cyprus demands passports when entering the country. Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Lichtenstein can enter the country with their national identity cards. Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area.

Tourist Visas

Visas for this country can be issued by Cypriot embassies and general consulates. Visitors from the European Economic Area, as well as citizens of the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand don’t need a visa to Cyprus and they allowed to stay in the country for up to 3 months. Residents from non-EU countries must obtain a visa for Cyprus.

Cypriot consulates provide certain facilitations for Russian citizens – so-called “Pro Visa”. Pro Visas are single-entry visas and are valid only for Russian citizens travelling to Cyprus directly from Russia, without any intermediate stops. Application forms for Pro Visas can be submitted to the consulate via email and are generally processed in 24 hours. It is also important to note that all visas for Cyprus are issued free of charge to Russian citizens. Furthermore, from March 2009, Russian citizens holding a valid Schengen visa can visit Cyprus without a Cypriot visa, providing they have already visited the Schengen area.

Business visas

Standard tourist visa requirements are similar to business visas. As an additional requirement for business visa may be an employer’s letter with confirmation of the applicant’s salary. Self-employed individual should provide a lawyer’s, bank’s or accountant’s  confirmation letter. For business/official delegations and business trips the applicant must provide official letter of invitation from a company in the Republic of Cyprus or a written request from a host authority to attend meetings, conferences and other events connected with the capacity of the applicant.

PLEASE REMEMBER!

The total duration of stay in Cyprus may NOT EXCEED 90 days during 180-day period.

For the calculation of your short term stay you can use the calculator.

While visas only allow to enter the country, you must apply for a long term residence permit if you plan to stay for an extended period. Residence and immigration permits in Cyprus are administered by the Civil Registry and Migration Department or CRMD.

Political situation

The Republic of Cyprus does not recognize the northern part of the island under Turkish military occupation, therefore, its visa rules only apply to the Greek-Cypriot controlled area. All ports of entry in the Turkish-occupied north, including airports, are considered illegal by the Cyprus government. It is strongly recommended that visa holders enter Cyprus through the south, to avoid any potential problems with the law. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cyprus the legal ports of entry into the Republic of Cyprus are the airports of Larnaca and Paphos and the ports of Larnaca, Limassol, Latsi and Paphos.
